Scottie Scheffler makes PGA Tour history with 2024 Players Championship win, title defense

He’s the world No. 1 for a reason, folks.

Scottie Scheffler became the first player to defend his title at the 2024 Players Championship on Sunday with an 8-under 64 to come from behind and steal the win at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida. Xander Schauffele (70), Wyndham Clark (69) and Brian Harman (68) each finished a shot back at 19 under, one stroke away from a three-hole playoff.

The 27-year-old has separated himself from the rest of the pack with eight wins on Tour over the last two years, including the 2022 Masters. In seven starts so far this season, Scheffler hasn’t finished worse than T-17 and has six top 10s. Last Sunday he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational for the second time in his career.
