CROMWELL, Conn. — Thursday was a sweltering day in Connecticut as players and fans alike at the 2024 Travelers Championship worked hard to stay cool at TPC River Highlands. As temperatures soared into the mid-90s, the field of 70 golfers once again took advantage of soft greens and the 6,835-yard layout, making a total of 265 birdies.
When all the action was done, Tom Kim, who tied for 38th here last season in his only other appearance at the Travelers Championship, had his name atop the leaderboard. His 62 was two shots better than Rickie Fowler, Kurt Kitayama, Will Zalatoris and Akshay Bhatia. Seven golfers ended the day three shots back at 5 under, including Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele.
