PART 3 of the 2013 PGA Show
Useful Golf Equipment that Offers More Fun and Benefits for Every Golfer
These are the products that stood out at the Show amongst hundreds.
Daphne’s Head Covers
Every year I always feature the head covers from Daphne’s. Why? Simple- this 22 year old company offers both a unique and a quality product for all golfers.
Even though this mom-and-pop company is based in Phoenix, Arizona, it continues to be an international one. Its covers are sold at pro shops, resorts and other specialty golf stores in 75 countries.
According to Jane Spicer, the owner, certain products do very well in certain countries. The British like the dogs, and the Japanese are crazy about sock monkeys.
I personally like and use their Wildlife and Dog series, especially the Black Panther driver head cover and the Black Labrador hybrid/utility series.
A visit to their web site is a fun trip in and of itself, as the plethora of designs is a feel good experience.
Prices range from $18.00 to $30.00 www.daphnesheadcovers.com
Martin Golf Apparel
Remember Fairway & Greene, the quality, upscale men’s clothing manufacturer? Their driving force and creative genius, Rick Martin, has now formed his own company.
In this writer’s opinion, there simply is no better golf clothing manufacturer than Rick Martin.
His new line of shirts are phenomenally comfortable, of the highest quality, have the best collars of any golf shirts on the market and really make the wearer look sophisticated and stylish.
In keeping with Martin’s longtime philosophy of creating apparel that’s both traditional and timeless, the Spring 2013 collection will continue the company’s focus on natural fibers
100% Peruvian Pima Cotton is made of long-stapled mercerized yarn and the Baruffa Merino wool is the highest quality yarn from Italy.
Martin Apparel’s unique, proprietary finishing processes impart a lasting luster and hand feel to every shirt they produce.
“One of the fundamental philosophies that I have developed over a lifetime of experience in the apparel business, is choosing colors that complement and flatter a variety of skin tones,” says Rick Martin.
The beautiful and bright Riviera color grouping, seen in the photo, is named after the legendary French Riviera, elevates the senses with an abundance and variety of vibrant colors: Aquatic Lapis blue, brilliant Carmine red, soothing Aqua and Turquoise, gleaming Lime and Tangerine are in full form with Sunflower complimenting the subtle Iris.
To ensure that Martin Golf Apparel reaches a select customer base of discerning golfers, these collections – like all Martin Golf Apparel – is sold exclusively at golf clubs.
These are hottest grips on the PGA Tours and growing rapidly every week in its usage. If you have not tried these grips, do yourself a favor and watch your putting improve. Why, you ask? Simply because the non taper technology increases consistency and lowers scores by allowing even pressure in both hands, thereby, eliminating added tension in the wrist and forearms. This in turn helps the arms to swing free, further enhancing a pendulum putting stroke. Additionally, the split color graphics are designed to ensure repeatable hand placement for more consistent putting.
SuperStroke grips now feature a new high-tech PU material with Cross Traction technology. The Cross Traction design improves the feel and tackiness of the grip.
SuperStroke’s newest model is the SuperStroke Flatso DB. The DB stands for Double Barrel and this grips’ USP (Unique Selling Proposition) is that whereas most every grip has a single shafting option, the Flatso DB allows for two shafting options.
Left-eye dominant players benefit from shafting in the “forward” position, while right-eye dominant players will prefer the “back” position.
Additionally, the new flat-top design widens hands, increasing shoulder rotation and eliminating involuntary wrist activity.
The DB version has all the design benefits of the Flatso 1.7 and the grip weighs 90 grams.
These grips will be available by May 15th.
Lastly, SuperStroke offers a variety of grips in a variety of colors from ultra slim models to mid and slim models, Fatso, Claw, split grip and belly putter grips.

Developed and formulated in New Zealand, the Golfersskin line of products has been specifically formulated for golfers. Golfersskin offers total UVA/UVB broad spectrum protection from the elements.
Currently in excess of 201 PGA Tour players are using Golfersskin’s products.

Wilson Staff Duo Balls
Why is this one of the hottest selling balls ? Let’s start by delineating its 3 biggest assets: It is very long, excellent around and on the greens, and has a marvelous feel on impact.
Whether you use the white or yellow version of this two-piece ball, our testers were split equally. This 40 compression, Ionomer covered ball with its 302 dimple pattern, enables slower swingers to gain extra yards and the feel of “crushing” the ball with the driver and a deft touch around the greens.
$19.99 per dozen www.wilsongolf.com
Polara Golf Balls
The ability to hit the ball straight makes playing golf faster, less expensive and much more fun; fewer lost balls to replace, less time searching for wayward drives and above all, greater enjoyment and satisfaction that comes with shooting lower scores! The fact that it is banned for PGA Tour play, confirms it works. The ban is certainly understandable at the highest levels of the game, but for those who just want a more enjoyable round of golf, the Polara ball is the perfect solution. The ball’s revolutionary, asymmetrical dimple pattern is what reduces hooks and slices up to 75%. Shallow dimples are positioned around the ball’s equator with deeper dimples at the poles. One glance and you clearly see the Polara difference. Anyone with a slice will undoubtedly experience the self-correcting effect.
Polara balls are designed for the vast majority of recreational golfers, who want to take advantage of technology improvements; who want to have fun playing golf. “We’re not trying to remove the skill from the game,” said Polara’s David Felker. “We’re just trying to remove the frustration”. During robotic testing where a significant slice was induced, on average, Polara balls reduced the slicing effect by 75% over traditional balls, including premium brands. Golf Labs director Gene Parente states, “We set up the Golf Labs robot to simulate a 90 foot slice based on launch conditions of an average golfer. With the nonconforming Polara Ultimate Straight golf ball we found that compared to several popular conforming golf balls, which all sliced about 90 feet, the Polara ball corrected up to 70 feet of the 90 foot slice.”
With Polara golf balls, hit more fairways, shoot lower scores and have more fun – guaranteed or your money back. Polara Golf is offering one 3-ball sleeve of Ultimate Straight balls and one 3-ball sleeve of XD golf balls, together, for just 11.95 (incl S&H). Polara balls are at retailers nationwide but this specially priced sampler pack is only available at www.playpolara.com.
Black Magic Hybrid Wedges
Are these wedges made for Tour players? Hardly, but they do serve a purpose. They are confidence builders, a training aid and are available in both the Pre-2010 Grooves version that conform to the USGA Rules for Amateur Competition and with the new grooves that conform to the USGA Rules for Top Level Competition, stamped with 2010 on the bottom.
The USP (Unique Selling Proposition) of the Black Magic Wedge, assures the user less strokes and both a major reduction in shanks and a substantial reduction of chunking. The large full face action, set back hosel, hybrid technology and improved extra wide sole allows you to slide the club under the ball on ANY lie creating more spin and lob it softly onto the green from a few to 125 yards on the target line depending on your swing speed. These forgiving wedges are very easy to use, especially from the sand and in executing the short pitch shot. The leading edge of the face is progressed so far forward it makes it virtually impossible to hit the ball off the hosel and shots cut through the turf and high grass, easily.
The key directive in using these wedges is that practicing is essential. Initially, they look awkward and set up very differently from a traditional wedge. Finding the correct loft for your game and course conditions are critical. Simple instructions – just swing through the ball and let the club do the rest.
The specially designed bottom is curved perfectly to ‘glide’ over the grass or sand, substantially reducing the chunking that many players have trouble with. The wedge gives instant lift on golf shots with little release because of the grooves on the face (the maximum the USGA allows), and is available in 5 different lofts: 37°, 48°, 52°, 56° and 60°.
Ogio TAJ Golf Bag
This particular handsome nylon golf bag features a 14-way cart top with full length dividers and integrated handles at all the positions one would expect, rather than an after thought on so many other bags.
But this is Ogio. Ogio stands for quality and innovation. Their Integrated putter well fits oversized grips, especially the SuperStroke line of grips, easily as opposed to a tight fit common in most cart bags.
There is Ogio’s TORQ strap and cart strap channel – clever design and functional as are the 8 pockets (7 zippered), ZBP (Zipperless Ball Pocket), insulated zippered cooler pocket, and the weather-resistant fleece lined valuables pocket with cell phone sleeve.
There is also a detachable pocket panel for embroidery/logo application to personalize the bag.
This is a great cart bag!
